The Story of "Spangenberg"
Spangenburg orphan chacma baboonOn first examination his injuries seemed impossible to overcome, yet, against the odds, his story has a happy ending.
On Dec.17th 2002 we got a call from a nearby industrial mine. A very nice caring gentleman told us about the badly hurt little baboon he had rescued and asked us to come and fetch him.
This is what we found...
A baby baboon, hardly alive, with a severe head fracture.
His face seemed to have been in contact with some all-destroying substance which had burnt his skin so badly that the skin was coming off like a mask.
Spangenburg orphan chacma baboonThe veterinarian had never seen such terrible injuries. The open raw burn-wounds in his face were so very painful and he soon gave himself over to our soothing oils and the tender loving care he received from everybody at C.A.R.E. Slowly we managed to make him want to live again, to fight for his life and safety...
This is three months later. His eyes are telling us of his healing and renewed confidence in the world.
Today he is a confident, healthy little boy, full of strength and fun, in his own play group. We named him "Spangenberg" after his kind rescuer who bothered to pick him up, find us, and give him a second chance in life.
Spangenberg's Miracle Ointment
- 300 ml. Basic oil - jojoba oil
- 10 drops tea tree oil (maleleuca alternifolia) to stop bacterial infection
- 40 drops lavender (lavendula offocinalis) to numb the pain and help with the "burnt" skin.
- 30 drops geranium (pelargonium graveolens) to help build up new skin again.
We thank Ms. Irene Henkes, a Dutch scientist for the recipe.
